Supporting Organizations |
SO is a public charity that derives its publicly supported status from its relationship to one or more publicly supported organizations even though its funding is from one individual, a family or some other small group of funders, rather than from the general public. An SO is a separate entity from the Marin Community Foundation, has its own board of trustees, makes its own decisions, and has its own 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS. The SO does commit its assets to the Foundation's charitable purposes, yet retains its own grantmaking identity.
